Counteract “Reluctant Readers” With Book Subscription Boxes

What’s the best way to counteract “reluctant reader” traits?  Make reading something kids and teens genuinely look forward to!  Of course, curating a love for reading starts at home and in the classroom, but some kids need a little extra push. We all know that kids love opening gifts, so monthly subscription “book boxes” might be the perfect way to keep kids reading all year long!

With these book boxes, kids can experience the joy of opening presents along with the joy of discovering a great new book.  If you have a reluctant (or avid) reader in your life, here are a few children’s and YA book subscription services you may want to try:

LitJoy Crate

From Board Books and Picture Books to YA novels, LitJoy Crate is for kids of all ages! Subscriptions start at $29.99 and can be customized based on your child’s age and reading preferences.  Check out #litjoycrate on Instagram to see examples of boxes users have received.

OwlCrate

With a selection of monthly and quarterly plans starting at $29.99, OwlCrate offers readers a variety of bookish delights.  Each package features a theme (such as Steampunk, Royalty, and Dystopia) and includes one or two books and other goodies like bookmarks, jewelry, stationery, and notebooks.  There’s no way teens could get bored with this one!  Check out their past boxes here.

Gift Lit

Gift Lit offers book boxes for readers of all ages and allows users to hand-pick the titles they’d like to receive. Some of their popular boxes include Baby’s First Library, Page Turners (for ages 8-12), and Fiction for Teen Girls (or Boys).  Of course, parents may find themselves craving a monthly box of their own.  Luckily, Gift Lit offers a wide variety of Fiction and Non-Fiction titles for adult readers as well.

Little Fun Club

For $25 a month, Little Fun Club will send you 3 children’s titles in every box!  Curated based on your child’s age and interests, this service offers everything from board books to chapter books recommended for children up to 12 years old.  Check out #littlefunclub on Instagram to see previous boxes (and adorable baby pics!)
