So, with that in mind, I&#8217;m sharing some suggestions to deliver a killer headline for your book!<br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<b>1)\u00a0Mention\u00a0well known authors \/ books \/ media<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The variation among engagement rates can boil down to simple word choice. For example, using <\/span><b>recognizable authors or books<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in your headline, like Nicholas Sparks or Harry potter, can increase engagement. Likewise, <strong>mentioning well-known television shows, movies or celebrities\u00a0<\/strong>grab reader&#8217;s attention to draw them into content speaks specifically to their likes.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>2) Add emotional words<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humans react to <strong>words that make us feel anxious<\/strong>&#8211; like <em>afraid, scare, risk<\/em> and <em>alarm<\/em>. These are great words to use for engagement, but be careful to use them wisely and not add too much negativity to the ad.\u00a0In addition, it helps to use <strong>words that\u00a0humanize<\/strong>\u00a0the ad\u00a0and are\u00a0related to people (i.e. hair, friend, laugh) and can increase engagement.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>3) Use context words to increase attention. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are context words? They&#8217;re a group of 1,072 words in the English language that can increase a person\u2019s interest and attention! You can read more about <a href=\"http:\/\/nativeadvertising.com\/contextwords\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">these here<\/a>. The context words can easily be\u00a0split into 4 categories: insight, time, space, and motion\u00a0&#8211; as shown here:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>4) For the long headline, WRITE LONG.<\/strong> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Longer headlines drive more engagement and deliver greater impact. Think about Buzzfeed headlines &#8212; they practically tell the entire story in the headline! While\u00a0our native ad specs do include a short headline that\u2019s only 25 characters, we also ask for a 90 character headline &#8211; and we suggest using as much of that space as you can!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">_________________<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that I&#8217;ve shared some best practices for native headlines,\u00a0 let\u2019s take a look at some\u00a0<strong>top headline examples:<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Killer Headline #1:<br \/>\n<em>Looking for a scare? You&#8217;ll feel the hair stand on your arms with Stephen King&#8217;s new novel<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This headline rocks with its use of a famous author, insight context words like &#8220;feel,&#8221; humanizing words like &#8220;hair&#8221; and &#8220;arm,&#8221; an alert word (&#8220;scare&#8221;), and clocks in at exactly 90 characters long!<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nKiller Headline #2:<br \/>\n<em>Obsessed with sexy reads? Then meet the sexiest new character your eyes will ever read.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>At 87 characters long, this headline\u00a0uses\u00a0humanizing words like &#8220;sexy&#8221; and &#8220;eyes&#8221;,\u00a0and lots of context words!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Killer Headline #3 :<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><strong>James Patterson is the master of storytelling.
