AdBiblio Case Study: Playmaker from Wattpad Books

New Year, New Romance! Spicy reads are hotter than ever, and we were thrilled to help Wattpad connect with romance and sports fans for Playmaker: A Hidden Attractions Novel by Deanna Faison. Packed with humor, heart, and heat, Playmaker is a must-read for anyone who loves a good no-strings-attached romance.

Inspired by the hit Webnovel My Brother’s Best Friend, this steamy sports romance blends football with romance. Cameron has it all—NFL dreams and a charm that works on everyone… except Maddie. Her old crush on her brother’s best friend is ancient history—until Spring Break flips their worlds upside down. Perfect for fans of Icebreaker by Hannah Grace and the swoon-worthy stories of Tessa Bailey and Elle Kennedy, this BookTok sensation is a total touchdown!

The campaign featured a mix of banner ads (created by us!) and targeted Gen Z and Millennial women who read new adult, romance, and fiction books. We also added in traits and behaviors like sports enthusiasts, bestselling book buyers, romance influencers and their followers, rom-com fans, TikTok/BookTok users, heavy eBook readers, and more! Comps included romance authors like Hannah Grace, Tessa Bailey, Elle Kennedy, Emily Rath, Lauren Blakely, Liz Tomforde, Ruth Stilling, and Erin MacKenzie, and keywords included terms and phrases like #SpicyBookTok, Wattpad romance, sports romance books, and book boyfriend.

The ads performed strongly with Gen Z and Millennial women who are new adult readers (0.24% CTR), our proprietary genre read-alikes (0.22% CTR), and romance fans who shop for books on Amazon (.21% CTR) and love rom-coms (0.21% CTR). The campaign wrapped up with an impressive 0.20% CTR and 1.68% IAR, running across top sites like She Knows, ESPN, Jezebel, People, Variety, Culturess, AV Club, Buzzfeed, and more.
