Pockets of Love by Yamile Saied Méndez and Sara Palacios is a touching picture book that celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and shows how food and memories connect us with lost loved ones. We were thrilled to help HarperCollins Children’s promote this beautiful story to Latinx parents, grandparents, picture book buyers, and more!
In Pockets of Love, siblings Star and Sebi aim to brighten Mami’s birthday, which feels empty this year without Grandma Monona. They choose to make her favorite empanadas, hoping to recreate the magic of Monona’s cooking, even without her secret ingredient. This heartfelt picture book beautifully illustrates how the memories of those we’ve lost continue to live on in the special moments we share. Kirkus Reviews describes it as “a celebration of family, culture, and the healing power of homemade empanadas.”
The campaign featured a mix of banner and native ads, targeting parents and grandparents of children ages 3-8, with a special focus on Latinx parents and grandparents. Additional traits and behaviors included picture book buyers, children’s book buyers, Latinx influencers and followers, parents and grandparents interested in Latinx history and culture, children’s gift shoppers, and more! Comps included similar Latinx children’s authors like Meg Madina, Gabi Garcia, Yuyi Morales, Isabel Quintero, Juana Martinez-Neal, Junot Díaz, and Lucky Diaz. Keywords included terms and phrases like must-read children’s books, Latinx children’s books, Latinx picture books, Latinx children’s authors, cooking picture books, and more!
The ads resonated strongly with our Children’s book influencers and followers (0.36% CTR), Children’s TV and movie viewers who read/buy Children’s books (0.34% CTR), Parents, Grandparents and Children’s book buyers shopping for gifts for young kids (0.32% CTR), Picture book buyers (.27% CTR), and Latinx Parenting blog visitors who read / buy Children’s books (0.20% CTR).
